Cookies and Cream Puppy Chow

We recently traveled across the state to Sanibel Island with some friends. The days were filled with lots of beach lounging, shell picking, fishing, and sunsets. At night we would all meet up and do dinner together at one of the condos.

I made a few snacks to take along to much on during the days, and this Cookies and Cream Puppy Chow was one of them. I divided it up between a few quart size plastic bags and distributed them amongst the condos. 

This Cookies and Cream Puppy Chow was a hit with the adults and the kids both. I found it highly addictive. My bag was gone in no time. YUM YUM!

Some people call it Cookies and Cream Muddy Buddies. But I grew up in the 90's, in Montana. And we call it Puppy Chow. So Cookies and Cream Puppy Chow it is!



Cookies and Cream Puppy Chow

Ingredients:
1/2 a bag of white chocolate chips or 6 oz of white melting chocolate
1/2 a bag of chocolate chips or 6 oz of melting chocolate
5 cups of Chex Cereal divided into 2 portions of 2 1/2 cups each
2 tsp shortening
18 Oreo Cookies
1 cup of powdered sugar dived into 2, 1/2 cup portions

Directions:
- Pulse 8 Oreos in a food processor until crushed fine.
- Place two brown paper bags opened up on the counter top.
- Put 1/2 cup powdered sugar, and 1/2 of the fine crushed Oreos, into each bag.
- Set aside.
- In two separate large mixing bowls, place the Chex Cereal. (2 1/2 cups in each bowl)
- Set aside.
- In two separate microwave safe bowls, melt the chocolate, and the white chocolate each
  with 1 tsp of shortening. 30 seconds at a time, in the microwave, stirring between, until
  melted.
-Once chocolate is melted, pour the white chocolate over one bowl of the Chex, and pour
 the chocolate over the other bowl of Chex. Stir each individually until they are coated
 well with melted chocolate.
-Use a spatula to transfer the chocolate coated Chex into the powdered sugar filled
 brown bags. Chocolate in one, white chocolate in the other.
-Fold the top of each bag over a few times, hold tight, and shake shake shake!
-Shake until coated well with the powdered sugar/crushed Oreo mixture.
-Once coated, pour out of bag onto a cookie sheet to allow to cool.
-Once cooled, break the remaining 10 Oreo cookies into about 8-10 pieces each and toss
 them into one big bowl with both colors of coated Chex.
-Store Cookies and Cream Puppy Chow in an airtight container.
