Tis' the Season! Whether you celebrate Christmas in your household or not, I am sure you still enjoy the beautiful Christmas lights that decorate the neighborhoods this time of year. I have always loved gazing at them. When I was a child, my parents and all 5 of the children would drive around town after the school Christmas program hunting down the lights. With our shiny black shoes, and tinsel tied in our hair we would eagerly stare out the window as our parents drove up and down the streets. When we spotted a lit up house an excited discovery scream was always followed with oooo's and ahhhh's.
To this day I still enjoy looking at the lights. After I have strung my own, I like to pour a glass of red wine or steamy cup of coffee and walk around the neighborhood with Dan to look at all the other lit up places. There is one particular house that we walk to every year. It is called the Hyatt Extreme Christmas House. They are also on facebook here. This year we have already visited our twinkling neighbors quite a few times. It is a great place for an evening walk with out-of-town guests, especially if they have kids. The kids love this place, as they are usually allowed to walk through the yard and look at all the stuff going on.
This year I also discovered a new Christmas House. A total opposite style than the Hyatt House, this is awesome in a whole different way. My discovery scream and oooo's and ahhh's came out when I found this house! We have taken guest to this one too and everyone usually whips out their phones to take pictures and videos. Here are two videos from previous years. It only gets better with time but video still doesn't do it justice. Live is best.
In the spirit of Christmas I am launching a Kaela's Christmas Craze! All food from here on out till Christmas will be part of Christmas baking!! Today I bring you White Chocolate Candy Cane Brownies. I made these for the team the other day and they were a hit. I also kept a few behind for myself and my Dad who was visiting.
White Chocolate Candy Cane Brownies
-2 eggs, oil and water as directed on the back of the package for the "cakey" brownie
-2 cups of Premier White Chocolate Morsels ( I used Toll House)
-1 tsp of butter flavored Crisco
-1/2 cup of crushed Candy Canes
-Make Brownies as directed on the back of the box. If you have the option of using 2 eggs rather than one to make "cakey" brownies, do it
-Do not over bake
-When the brownies come out of the oven, immediately put 2 cups of white chocolate morsels in a bowl with the Crisco and microwave 15-20 seconds at a time stirring in between until melted
- Scoop the chocolate out over the warm brownies and evenly spread to cover the top
- Sprinkle crushed candy cane over the top of the warm chocolate and if needed gently pat it into the chocolate to help it set in
-When brownies have cooled, cut carefully with a sharp knife
-Serve or store in an airtight container
